Where are different library materials kept ?
1. Newspapers : There are three different forms of newspapers available for readers. For additional information, please consult our Library Guides – Newspaper Sources.
2. Periodicals : Current periodicals are kept in the periodical area on the second floor and in stroke (Chinese) and alphabetical orders. Bound periodicals are stored in the library B1 and require completion of a application form for access. Please use the library system to find out if the periodicals are bounded yet.

Theses and dissertations by CYCU faculty (call number CYL) are also located on the fifth floor and restricted to library use only.
Our online thesis system, established in 1990, maintains theses and dissertations in digital format. You may search and browse these materials through the system. Downloads and printing are available with author approval. For information on acquiring theses and dissertations from other domestic and international institutions, please consult our Library Guides – Dissertations.

What do I do if the material is nowhere to be found in the library ?
Current Periodicals:
- Readers have access to all current periodicals in the stacks and they sometimes return them to the wrong stacks. We try to avoid these mistakes by spending more time on checking if the materials are kept in where they belong.
- You may also check online to find out if the periodicals are being bounded at the time. You may also ask a staff member for the status.
Why aren’t the books in the stacks?
- They are most likely lent out. Use our online system to check if the books you intend to borrow are available. If not, you may reserve them.
- Books are put back to the stacks in 27 hours after they are returned to the library. We sometimes short of hands and the work can take more than 27 hours. Sorry for the inconvenience.
- Another reader is using the material you are looking for.
- You may be finding the material in the wrong location. Please make sure you are in the right area.
- The books were misplaced in the wrong stacks. We apologize for that.
- Some readers keep the materials where only they can find. Hence, the materials are “missing”.
- You may fill out a Missing Book Search at the circulation desk or online.
Material Searching Process:
- The book will be in a “searching” status and reserved for the reader.
- We will notify you when the book is found. Please proceed to the circulation desk and complete the borrowing process.
- You may view the progress in your borrowing history after 5 days.
- You may use this service up to 3 times. If the book is still not found after 2 months, it will be on the missing list. We will then inform the acquisition and cataloguing section to assess if a repurchase is necessary.
- An extra copy of the material will be purchased if more than 20 readers have reserved it. Use the interlibrary cooperation or book recommendation if you need it promptly.
- The service is only available for valid readers due to the shortage of staff members.
How do I know what new collection there is ?

- Subscribe to the Library Newsletter to receive the monthly new book updates via email

Can I borrow theses/dissertations, course reserves and textbooks ?
