Library\u201d) formulated CYCU Chang Ching Yu Memorial Library Selection and Deletion Guidelines for Electronic Databases (hereafter referred to as \u201cthe Guidelines\u201d) for Acquiring or Discontinuing Electronic Resources (hereafter referred to as \u201cE\u2010Resources\u201d) in order to effectively utilize electronic resources and provide criteria for CYCU to acquire or discontinue access to those resources.<\/li>\n<li>Guidelines to evaluate and acquire\n<p>(1) Content<br \/>Must accord with CYCU academic needs, as well as authority, accuracy, and currency.<br \/>Must avoid overlaying between different E\u2010Resources. If an E\u2010Resource contributes a lot to teaching \/ research needs, university evaluation \/ accreditation, and university long\u2010term development, the Library will consider it top priority to be selected.<\/p>\n<p>(2) Budget Control<br \/>In order to reduce expenditure, joining the E\u2010Resource consortium will be first priority.<\/p>\n<p>(3) Usage Statistics and Feedback<br \/>For E\u2010Resources, already purchased or during trial, usage statistics and patron feedback will both serve as important basis to be renewed or selected.<\/p>\n<p>(4) User interface<br \/>E\u2010Resources with web interface will be on top priority. In addition, retrieval functions, ease of operation, connection speed, authority scope, content quality, effectiveness, price, contract guarantee, embargo periods, vendor reputation all serve as important bases.<\/p>\n<p>(5) E\u2010Resource versions<br \/>The following 4 factors will be taken into consideration when the Library is choosing the most efficient version of E\u2010Resources: convenient use, frequency of use, cost, and content\u2019s value to preserve. The different levels of versions are categorized in priority as follows: intranet, internet (unlimited), internet (limited), standalone, or charge\u2010per\u2010visit.<\/p>\n<p>(6) Priority list<br \/>a. Renewal of existing E\u2010Resources<br \/>b. Upgrade of existing E\u2010Resources<br \/>c. Full\u2010text online database of periodicals d. complement to the academic fields<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Procedures to evaluate and acquire<br \/>(1) Collect patrons\u2019 recommendations or vendor initiated ads.<br \/>(2) Patron is required to fill out\u300cCYCU Chang Ching Yu Memorial Library E\u2010Resource.<br \/>Recommendation Form\u300d, which needs to be approved by the Department Head and<br \/>College Dean, and it will be served as basis for purchasing procedure.<br \/>(3) The Library will contact vendor for free trial after preliminary evaluation.<br \/>(4) During trial period, patron will be advised to fill out feedback in \u00a0\u300cCYCU Chang Ching Yu<br \/>Memorial Library E\u2010Resource Trial Feedback\u300don Library website.<br \/>(5) When trial period ends, the Library will print out feedbacks and ask vendor to provide usage statistics<br \/>(6) Each year, these statistics will be forwarded to related colleges, who will thus formulate the priority list of acquiring or continuing E\u2010Resources and send back to the Library.<br \/>(7) The Library, based on the approved school\u2010year budget for E\u2010Resources and the above priority list, will begin the purchasing process.<br \/>(8) The Library will inform patron who recommends E\u2010Resource about the reason why his\/her recommendation is not purchased.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Guidelines to eliminate or discontinue<br \/>(1) Number of annual usage for retrieval is low and purchase will be not cost\u2010effective<br \/>(2) School\u2010year budget can not afford the increase of purchasing fee for certain E\u2010Resource<br \/>(3) Content of certain E\u2010Resource can be replaced by or is similar to that of other\u2019s<br \/>(4) Quality is not satisfactory due to low system efficiency or long\u2010term bad connection<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Procedures to eliminate or discontinue<br \/>(1) Library will, in accordance with the above guidelines, make a suggestion list of E\u2010Resources to be eliminated or discontinued<br \/>(2) Prior to elimination or discontinuation of certain E\u2010Resources, Library will notify the patron\/department who recommends or the major users, collect opinions, then decide in Library meeting.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Guidelines go into effect when passed by Library Committee Meeting and approved by the President.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Collections Acqusitions CYCU Chang Ching Yu Memorial Li [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":0,"parent":10638,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-27349","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry","entry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.9 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Rules &amp;
